Zawondra Trinnette Lee of South Bend, Indiana, passed away December 10, 2023. Born October 7, 1971, she grew up in South Bend and graduated from Washington High School. Zawondra pursued her interest in caring for others by attending Ivy Tech College and became a certified surgical technologist — a role in which she brought steadiness and compassion to patients and colleagues alike. She also trained in cosmetology at Michiana Beauty College and served her community in other professional capacities over the years.

Family was central to Zawondra’s life. She is remembered by her children and grandchildren, who often brought her joy and purpose. She is also survived by her mother, Shirley Lee, and her brother, Zenicko Williams. Zawondra was preceded in death by her father and her son, Kevin Slaughter II.

Those who knew Zawondra recall a person who worked hard, sought opportunities to help others, and cared deeply for her family. Her dedication to her work in healthcare and the kindness she showed in everyday moments left a quiet but lasting impression on people around her.

A celebration of Zawondra’s life was held at Alford's Mortuary in South Bend on December 27, 2023. Family and friends gathered to honor her memory, share stories, and remember the warmth she brought into their lives. Her presence in her community — as a professional, a mother, and a loved relative — is what those who loved her carry forward.
