Remembering Zachary
A life held close in memory
Zachary Michael Alexander Holmes, age 21, brought warmth and energy to those who knew him. A devoted son and grandson, Zachary grew up with a deep love of family and spent much of his youth around siblings, cousins, and close friends. From early days in T-ball to later years as an all-star player, baseball was a lifelong joy that reflected his dedication and competitive spirit. He also shared a love of race cars, often attending races with his father, a pastime that became an important bond between them.
Family was central to Zachary’s life. He was a beloved son of Michael A. Holmes and a grandson of Michael B. Holmes and Linda Vancampen-Holmes. He was a brother to Tiffany A. Holmes and a big brother to Chloe A. Holmes, Aleah A. Holmes, Madison E. Hood, and Lucas C.F. Holmes. Zachary treasured his relationships with extended family, including uncles Kelly J. Holmes and Joshua A. Holmes, and cousins who shared in many childhood memories.
Zachary cared for others in everyday ways and was a loving partner to Tayla Bissonnette. He also served as a father figure to Tayla’s children, Giovanni and Jaylee, offering guidance and companionship that those nearest him remember fondly. He worked hard in his studies and sought to make his family proud, approaching both school and life with determination and a bright outlook.
Those who knew Zachary recall a young man described as courageous, caring, intelligent, and dependable — someone who could be counted on through both good times and bad. His life, though cut tragically short on August 3, 2017 in Fort Myers, Florida, left lasting impressions on his family and friends.
A memorial service in honor of Zachary was held on August 26, 2017 at Pine Hill Cemetery, followed by a gathering to celebrate his life. The family arranged services through Fuller Metz Cremation & Funeral Services of Cape Coral.
Though his time among us was brief, Zachary’s legacy lives on in the memories of those who loved him and the small daily acts of care he showed to family and friends. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his competitive spirit on the ball field, and the quiet ways he looked after the children who depended on him.
