Obituary

A formal remembrance

Zachary Joseph “Zack” Lillard, 34, of Indianapolis, passed away October 21, 2025. Born September 23, 1991, in Indianapolis, Zachary grew up surrounded by family and friends who remember him for his big heart and loyalty. He loved playing sports in his youth and carried that team spirit into everyday life — always ready to pitch in, protect those he cared about, and share a laugh. Family holidays meant everything to Zachary; Thanksgiving was a favorite because it gathered everyone together around food, stories, and his particular fondness for desserts. He delighted in simple pleasures: a big bowl of cereal, a milkshake, or ice cream — sometimes even for breakfast. Zachary enjoyed working on cars in his spare time and took comfort in routine weekend projects with loved ones. He treasured time at the beach and looked forward to trips to Florida.

Zachary is remembered by his brothers Steven, Nick, Seth and Larry, and his sisters Skyler and Mikayla, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who were central to his life. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennifer Shupinsky, and grandparents Julia and David Shupinsky. A Celebration of Life gathering was announced by the family for November 5, 2025, at Norman F. Chance Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Indianapolis.

Those who knew Zachary recall a warm, protective presence who made people feel cared for — someone who showed love through small acts of help, shared meals, and time spent together. The family has invited friends and community members to honor his memory with donations toward funeral expenses and by sharing stories of the kindness he offered. Though gone too soon, Zachary’s memory lives on in the laughter and traditions he helped shape among his family and friends.
