Remembering Zachary

A life held close in memory

Zachary Joseph “Zacky” Lillard, age 34, passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2025. Born September 23, 1991, in Indianapolis, Zachary grew up surrounded by family and friends who remember him for his big heart and steady loyalty.

From childhood he loved playing sports and spending time outdoors with those he cared about. Family occasions—especially Thanksgiving—were among his favorite times because they brought everyone together. Zachary had a particular fondness for Florida vacations, and he enjoyed the small joys of life: a giant bowl of cereal, a thick milkshake, or a scoop (or two) of ice cream—sometimes even at breakfast.

Zachary was a protective presence for his nieces and nephews, treating them with the same care and attention he would give his own children. He liked helping family members with cars in his spare time and was known to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Those who knew him well describe a person whose kindness showed most clearly in everyday moments and in his willingness to be there for others.

He is survived by his brothers Steven, Nick, Seth and Larry; his sisters Skyler and Mikayla; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennifer Shupinsky, and his grandparents Julia and David Shupinsky.

A Celebration of Life gathering was held on November 5, 2025, at N.F. Chance Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Indianapolis. The family welcomed expressions of sympathy and donations to help with memorial expenses. Zachary’s family and friends remember him for his warmth, his ready smile, and the simple pleasures he loved sharing with the people closest to him.
