Xyrus Zelaya — often called “Xy” by those close to him — was a 16‑year‑old junior at Deltona High School whose presence in his community was marked by a friendly, outgoing nature and a love of sport. School leaders and coaches described him as bright and well‑liked by classmates; he played both football and soccer for Deltona High and was remembered by his coach for an infectious smile and generosity toward teammates.

At home he was known as the eldest child in his family, a young man who carried responsibilities while also holding hopes for the future.
