Remembering Willie

A life held close in memory

Willie James Johnson, Jr., born May 19, 1975, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, is lovingly remembered by his family and friends. A lifelong Cabarrus County resident, Willie graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1993 and went on to build a life centered on family and hard work. He owned and operated a local dump truck business, a reflection of his steady work ethic and commitment to supporting those he loved.

Willie cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Andrew Johnson of Concord; his daughter, Alexis Johnson of Salisbury; and two grandchildren, Ashton and Emilio Johnson, who brought him great joy. He also leaves behind his parents, Queen L. Reid and Willie J. Johnson, Sr.; his sister Natasha Carr; brother Bryan Johnson; and an extended circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry forward his memory.

Friends and family recall Willie for the dependable presence he offered in everyday moments — the quiet reliability of someone who showed care through work and family devotion. He took pride in his community roots in Kannapolis and in the simple pleasures of life shared with loved ones.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, followed by a funeral service. Those who wish to honor Willie’s memory may reflect on the ways he lived: through steady effort, devotion to family, and the small acts of care that defined his life.

Willie’s family invites memories and condolences as they mourn his loss and celebrate the life he gave to those around him. Though his time was far too short, his influence endures in the family he raised and the community relationships he nurtured.
