Remembering William

A life held close in memory

William Charles “Will” Simons Jr. brought light and laughter to those around him. Born December 28, 2001, in Winston‑Salem, Will was a young man whose life centered on family, friends, school and sports. He attended North Forsyth High School after transferring from Ronald Reagan High School, where he was known for his commitment on the football field and his enthusiasm for basketball. Teammates and coaches remembered his competitive spirit and steady presence with the Pfafftown Packers and the Winston‑Salem Mavericks.

Will cared deeply for his family and took pride in looking out for the people closest to him. He worked at the KFC on Liberty Street and balanced school, work and athletics with the kind of energy that made him a familiar face in his community. A member of New Direction Movement Cathedral Church, Will valued his faith and the connections it offered.

He is lovingly survived by his mother, Penny Barr; his father, William Charles Simons Sr.; his brother, Corey Simons; his sister, Ashley Simons; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who continue to carry his memory. Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at Greater Church in Winston‑Salem on November 23, 2018, and he was laid to rest at Parklawn Memorial Park.

Though his life was far too brief, Will’s kindness, loyalty, and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He is remembered not for the tragedy of his passing but for the ordinary, meaningful ways he gave to others — as a son who loved his family, a teammate on the field, and a friend who stood by his brothers. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength to those who loved him.
