Obituary
A formal remembrance
Wanda Beth Walters (February 6, 1956 – August 28, 2017) was a gentle presence in the Clovis community whose kindness and steady warmth touched many. A longtime member of Bethel Assembly of God Church, Wanda shared her faith through service on the worship team and by reaching out to neighbors and visitors with an easy smile. She loved music and could often be found at the piano; she also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and collecting lighthouses — small treasures that echoed her steady, guiding spirit.
For years Wanda worked as a circulation assistant at the Clovis-Carver Public Library, where patrons remember her for friendly conversations, thoughtful recommendations, and the calm, welcoming manner that made the library feel like a second home to so many. Her dedication to people — whether helping a child find a story or chatting with longtime patrons — reflected the simple, generous priorities of her life.
Wanda was born in Merkel, Texas, to Winston Edward Blair and LilyFaye Suzanne Pilkington Blair. She was a loving mother to her son Rick and daughter Mandie, and a proud grandmother to Brandon, Gracie and Avyn. Family and close friends remember Wanda as someone who cherished time together, talked about her loved ones often, and offered quiet support when it was needed most.
Her passing on August 28, 2017, left a deep ache in the community she served, and her memory continues to be honored in ways that reflect her life of service — including memorial scholarships and displays recognizing her contribution to the library and to Clovis. Those who knew her recall Wanda’s warm smile, her musical gifts, and the thoughtful, comforting presence she offered to others.
Wanda’s family entrusted arrangements to Muffley Funeral Home. In remembering her, friends and neighbors celebrate a life that quietly made the world kinder and brighter for those around her.
