Obituary

A formal remembrance

Walter E. Saunders, Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2015. He was a devoted family man whose life was defined by the steady love and companionship he offered to those nearest him.

Walter is remembered by his cousin and mother figure, Dorothy Harge, and her daughter Vivian Jones; his long-time companion Angela Williams; his children Vernicia Saunders (LaVelle Floyd) and Alonzo Saunders (Chrystal); two stepchildren, David (Dakara) Williams and Angela Williams; as well as several grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, who brought him great joy. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will carry forward memories of his kindness.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Walter’s life in late March 2015, with visitation at Calhoun Funeral Home and a service at Greater New Canaan Baptist Church. Those services reflected a family’s gratitude for the quiet strength, care, and companionship he offered through the years.

Those who knew Walter recall a man rooted in his community and family life, whose relationships—especially with Dorothy Harge, Angela Williams, and his children and grandchildren—were central to his days. While public records focus on the arrangements and those he loved, the true measure of Walter’s life lives on in the people he nurtured and the small, meaningful ways he supported them.

He will be remembered for his faithful presence in family gatherings, for the comfort he provided to loved ones, and for the legacy of care he passed to the next generations. May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him.
