Remembering Utahnna
A life held close in memory
Utahnna Dawn “Nana” BearComesOut Tillman, 36, was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation whose steady devotion to family, culture, and community shaped every part of her life. Born September 4, 1987 in Crow Agency, Montana, Utahnna grew up on the reservation and remained closely connected to her extended family and traditions.
Known to her loved ones as “Nana,” Utahnna worked as an executive housekeeper at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Lander, Wyoming, where colleagues appreciated her strong work ethic and dependable spirit. At home she cherished time with her children, Keshon BearComesOut and Aiyanna Tillman, who were described by family as her pride and greatest joy. Those who knew her remember a woman who found satisfaction in simple, meaningful things — sewing, drawing, and gatherings with family.
Utahnna graduated from Flandreau Indian School after attending Wyoming Indian Elementary and Junior High. Family and community were at the center of her life: she was a daughter, sister, and aunt whose presence was woven through celebrations, quiet moments, and the everyday life of the Wind River community. Her mother, Delta (Clair) Azbill, siblings, and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews survive her and mourn her loss.
Traditional American Indian funeral services were held on April 20, 2024, at the Shoshone Boys & Girls Club in Fort Washakie, followed by interment at Clair Cemetery. Those services reflected Utahnna’s deep connection to her heritage and the community that raised and sustained her.
Utahnna’s family remembers a woman who loved her children fiercely, took pride in her craftwork, and found joy in being surrounded by relatives. Her life — though cut short — left enduring traces in the home she kept, the work she performed, and the family she loved. She will be remembered with tenderness by those who were closest to her.
