Remembering Troy
A life held close in memory
Troy Anthony Coward (June 16, 1992 – May 24, 2021) is remembered for his steady dedication to family, country and learning. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Troy served his nation in the U.S. Navy, where he trained and served as a rescue diver and traveled with his unit to stations and missions overseas. His time in uniform showed his commitment to helping others and to the discipline of service.
After completing his military service, Troy returned to Philadelphia to continue his education, pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree at the Community College of Philadelphia with one semester remaining. Those who knew him recall his determination to build a future for himself and his daughters through study and hard work.
Family was central to Troy’s life. He was a loving father to three daughters—Amare’-Rose, Bella, and Blaire—who were, by every account, the pride of his life. He is also remembered by his mother, Kwanda Knight; his father, Anthony Coward; his sister Le’Shay Coward; grandparents; and an extended circle of relatives and friends who treasured his laugh and easy smile.
Troy’s early years included active participation in church life and community programs, where he enjoyed basketball and music activities and contributed to the audio/visual team. Friends and family describe him as someone who brought energy to the moments he shared with others and who carried with him the lessons of teamwork and service.
Though his life was cut far too short on May 24, 2021, Troy’s commitment to his children, his country, and his goals remains the central thread of his memory. He is mourned by those who loved him and remembered for a life of service, care, and quiet determination. May his daughters and family find comfort in his memory and the many small ways he made life brighter for those around him.
