Triston Dewayne Chavis

Triston Dewayne “Troop” Chavis (July 25, 2006 – March 25, 2023) will be remembered for his bright energy and the simple joys that shaped his short life. A devoted son and loving brother, Triston found happiness in sports — especially football and baseball — and in the easy pleasures of childhood: riding his bike, spending afternoons on his PlayStation, and caring for his beloved pit bulls. He attended Purnell Swett High School and treasured time with family and friends.

Triston’s family remembers him as playful and affectionate, someone who took pride in being there for the people he loved. He was a presence in the lives of his parents, siblings, grandparents, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who shared countless memories of his smiles and youthful enthusiasm.

Those who gathered to honor Triston’s life recalled him as adventurous and active — enjoying rides on his four-wheeler, cheering on neighborhood games, and making ordinary days feel fuller when he was near. He is described by his family as a loving son and brother whose companionship and humor left a lasting impression on those around him.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Christian Hunt, and great-grandmother Geraldine Locklear. Triston is survived by his parents, Stephen Wayne Chavis Sr. and Christina Nicole Locklear; siblings including Stephen Chavis Jr., Adonis Chavis, Dylan Lancaster, Miley Chavis, Brittany Chavis, and D’Anna Chavis; grandparents Sheana Locklear (William Clark), Michael Locklear (Brenda), Emma and James Chavis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who carry his memory forward.

A time of visitation was held on March 31, 2023, with funeral services on April 1, 2023, at Mercy Bridge Holiness Church, followed by burial at White Oak Christian Fellowship Cemetery. In remembering Triston, his family and community honor the warmth he brought to daily life and the love he shared with those nearest to him.
