Their life, in the words of those who remember

The story of Trenton Charles Rice-Morin

Trenton Charles Rice-Morin was a spirited teenager from Flint, Michigan, known around school and in his community for an outgoing personality and wide love of sports and the outdoors. As a student at Kearsley High School he took part in many athletic pursuits—wrestling, baseball, soccer, track and field, swimming and diving, and basketball—finding joy in both competition and camaraderie. Outside of school athletics, Trenton was frequently described by those who knew him as someone who loved being outside: hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes were among the activities that brought him energy and freedom.

Friends remember him for a quick sense of humor and a knack for making people laugh; that playful side made him a familiar presence to classmates and teammates. For his family, Trenton’s everyday interests—sports seasons, time spent outdoors, and the small but meaningful moments with friends—were what made him uniquely himself.

Trenton’s loss in April 2021 left a hole in the lives of those who knew and loved him. In the years since, his family has worked to honor his memory while seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding his death, and his mother has spoken publicly about the need for greater awareness of gun safety. Though public records and news accounts focus on the legal aftermath, those who knew Trenton emphasize his life first: the laughter he shared, the sports he loved, and the times outdoors with people who mattered to him. He is remembered as a young person with many interests and the ability to lift a room with his humor—a brief life that mattered deeply to family, friends, and teammates.
