Remembering Tommy

A life held close in memory

Tommy King III was a young man of promise and warmth whose life touched family, classmates, and friends in Decatur. Born June 15, 1999, Tommy graduated from MacArthur High School with the class of 2017 and went on to pursue higher education at Harris–Stowe State University in St. Louis, where he worked toward a degree and the future he hoped to build.

Tommy was known to those close to him as a determined student and someone who had plans for continuing his education. Those who loved him remember a young man with direction and aspiration — a son and community member whose life was opening into fuller possibility. His graduation from MacArthur and enrollment at Harris–Stowe were sources of pride for his family.

After his passing on November 28, 2019, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, family, friends, and the Decatur community gathered to honor his memory and to celebrate the brief but meaningful imprint he left on those around him. Funeral services arranged by Graceland–Fairlawn Funeral Home provided a place for loved ones to share memories, offer comfort, and support one another.

Tommy’s life, though tragically short, mattered deeply to those who knew him. He is remembered not only for the milestones he reached — high school graduation and college attendance — but for the hopes he carried and the people who loved him. The memory of Tommy King III endures in the stories and remembrances shared by his family and community.
