Remembering Timothy
A life held close in memory
Timothy Tripp (died June 14, 2014) was a familiar and active presence in his South Jamaica neighborhood — a small-business owner, a hands-on father, and a coach who invested time in local youth.
Tripp owned a clothing shop known as The Men's Room on Baisley Boulevard and took pride in building a future for his family. He was engaged to be married to Vanessa McKinley and was a father to his daughter, Tameia, who figures in public accounts of the family's grief. Loved ones and local reporters described him as a devoted dad who cared deeply about his child and his family life.
Beyond his business and family roles, Tripp volunteered as a coach with the Jamaica Bulldogs youth football league, mentoring young athletes and giving his time to the neighborhood’s children. Those who spoke after his death emphasized his community ties and his willingness to help and coach local youth — roles that made him known beyond his immediate family.
Tripp’s life was cut short in the early hours of June 14, 2014, when he was fatally shot inside a neighborhood bar in Jamaica, Queens. The loss prompted an outpouring of local grief: family members, friends and neighbors held a Father’s Day vigil near the location where he died and gathered for memorial services at a local church. The community remembered him for being present in the lives of those he loved, for his entrepreneurial spirit, and for the time he gave to local youth.
Though public reporting focuses on the tragic circumstances of his death, it is clear from multiple contemporaneous accounts that Timothy Tripp was first and foremost a father, a partner, a small-business owner, and a coach. Those threads — his care for his daughter Tameia, his plans with his fiancée Vanessa McKinley, his business on Baisley Boulevard, and his work with young athletes — are the lasting, human details that remain when recalling his life.
