Thomas Alexander Medley

Thomas Alexander “Toby” Medley Jr. (January 13, 1977 – August 10, 2009) was remembered for a generous spirit, a ready smile, and the everyday talents that made life around him brighter. Born and raised in Baltimore, Toby loved to bring people together—whether by preparing a meal, shaping a haircut, or sharing one of his drawings or paintings. Small acts of care and a lively sense of humor were among the qualities family and friends recalled most fondly.

Toby’s curiosity and faith led him to travel; he spoke with lasting wonder about walking the ground of Israel in November 1999. Those experiences seemed to deepen his warmth toward others and his desire to teach and uplift. He took joy in practical creativity—cooking for loved ones, styling hair for friends, and expressing himself through art. These interests gave him ways to connect across generations and to leave personal touches that linger in memory.

Family was central to Toby’s life. He was the beloved son of Vandonia Sharp and Thomas Alexander Medley Sr., and he was cherished as a father. He is survived by his daughter, Rose Brandi Medley, and a large extended family who treasured his humor and presence. In memories shared by relatives, Toby is described as someone who could light up a room, tell an engaging story, and make ordinary moments feel special.

Though his life was cut short on August 10, 2009, those who knew him remember a man who shared his gifts freely and who cared for the people around him.
