Remembering Taylor
A life held close in memory
Taylor D. Garrett of Kansas City, Missouri, was a man whose warmth and steady presence were felt by family and friends alike. Born in Kansas City on October 20, 1992, Taylor grew up in the community he loved and attended Ozanam High School, graduating in 2011. Though he did not follow a conventional employment path, those who knew him remember his practical skill with cars and his hands-on ability to fix and create — a dependable, jack-of-all-trades spirit that made him the person people called when something needed to be set right.
Family was the center of Taylor’s life. He cherished children and had a special way of drawing kids to him; nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends all recall his laugh, his infectious smile, and the giant, comforting hugs he gave that seemed to come from a place of protection. When others faced loss or struggled, Taylor often stepped forward to help and to try to fill gaps with care and presence. He carried an especially protective role among those closest to him, and that devotion shaped how he lived every day.
Taylor is remembered as a loyal brother and a loving family member. He is survived by his father, Alfred Green Jr.; sisters Tia Garrett and LaShawndra Green; a treasured maternal grandmother, Phyllis Green; a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and an unborn child whom the family honors in their grief. Those who loved Taylor describe him as generous with his time, generous with his laughter, and always ready to be present at a game, a track meet, or a family gathering.
Taylor’s life ended on July 20, 2025, a loss that was felt deeply by his family and the Kansas City community. While the circumstances of his passing received public attention, what endures most vividly in the memories of those who knew him are the everyday gifts he offered: steady hands, a ready smile, and unwavering care for the children and family members he held dear. In remembering Taylor, his family asks that people hold close the warmth he shared and the protective love he offered so freely.
