Remembering Tauvaaga

A life held close in memory

Tauvaaga “Judy” Lauvai lived a life rooted in family, faith, and community. Born in American Samoa on October 7, 1964, Judy grew up in Carson and remained closely connected to the people and places that shaped her. A graduate of Carson High School, she devoted more than five decades to the Carson community even as her path later took her to Arizona for work.

Judy was a devoted wife to her husband, Raymond, and a loving mother to her children — daughters Destine and Dynasty and sons Richmond and Raymond. Family was central to her life: she treasured gatherings, church fellowship, and passing along the traditions and values of her Samoan heritage. Her faith was an anchor, and she was known for quietly supporting those around her through church and neighborhood connections.

Professionally, Judy served as an administrative assistant in a university technology office, a role that reflected her steady work ethic and commitment to helping others. Those who knew her remember a woman who made family her priority and who carried a calm, encouraging presence into both home and work life.

Her funeral was held at 1st Congregational Christian Church of Wilmington, where family and friends gathered to celebrate her life, remember her kindness, and honor the love she gave so freely. Judy’s life was marked by devotion to her children, her extended family, and her community — a legacy of care and faith that endures in the memories of those who loved her.

Judy passed away on June 16, 2018. While her sudden death was felt deeply by family and friends, those who loved her continue to celebrate the ordinary, meaningful ways she shaped their lives — the meals shared, the quiet prayers, the steady presence of a mother and wife who put family first.
