Obituary
A formal remembrance
Steven D. “Scuba” LaCourse was a man whose life was defined by love for his family and the warmth he shared with friends. Born in Toledo on November 28, 1983, Steven graduated from Clay High School in 2002 and was proud to be a member of Local #500. He carried a ready smile and a generous heart—always willing to help others and quick to brighten a room.
Steve treasured the simple, important things: his wife Michelle and their children Olivia, Payton, and Gaven. He was remembered by those who knew him as loving and giving, a person who lived fully and cared deeply for the people around him. Family mattered most to him, and his son Gaven’s words—"I love you Dad"—stand as a quiet testament to that bond.
Friends called him “Scuba,” a nickname that spoke to his place in his community of close relationships and good times. He enjoyed being the life of the party while also being the steady, dependable presence family members relied upon. Steven is also survived by his mother Shawn Gust, in-laws Michael and Alicia Mominee, half siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who carry his memory forward.
Visitation and services were held at Freck Funeral Chapel in Oregon, Ohio, where family and friends gathered to celebrate Steve’s life — encouraged to honor him simply, in blue jeans and Buckeye shirts. Those who loved him remember a man who gave freely of himself and whose legacy lives on through the family he cherished. In lieu of flowers, the family invited memorial contributions to support his loved ones.
