Samantha Cox

Samantha Lynna Cox, born June 19, 1990 in Indianapolis, was a compassionate nurse and a devoted presence in the lives of family and friends. After graduating from Jennings County High School in 2009 and earning her nursing degree from Ivy Tech (Madison) in 2018, Samantha served patients with steady skill and a gentle manner. She worked as a registered nurse at Grand Strand Medical Center and had previously served her community as an EMT and at King’s Daughters Hospital in Madison.

Samantha loved the outdoors and felt at home near the water — the beach and open skies brought her joy. Family meant everything to her; she cherished her children and took pride in being a loving daughter and friend. Those who knew Samantha remember her ready laugh, her tenderness toward others, and the everyday kindness she showed in both her professional and personal life.

She was the daughter of Robert and Phyllis Leeds Olmstead and is remembered by relatives and friends who celebrated her warmth and commitment to caring for others. A funeral service was held on May 11, 2018 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, with visitation the evening before. In honoring Samantha’s life, family and community recalled a person who sought to help and heal, who enjoyed simple pleasures like the beach and the outdoors, and who carried a quiet, steadfast love for those close to her.

Samantha’s life was one of service and affection — a nurse who brought comfort to patients and a daughter and mother who created lasting memories with family. Though her time was far too short, those who knew her remember her for the compassion she gave and the laughter she shared. Her memory endures in the hearts of those she loved and served.
