A formal remembrance
Sa-Juan K. Nicholson, 19, of Green Bay, Virginia, is remembered by family and friends for the warmth he brought to those closest to him. A son, brother and devoted partner, Sa-Juan was surrounded by a wide family network who loved him deeply. He is survived by his mother, LaStarra Garcia; his fathers, Lionell Hardy and Jonathan Nicholson; his maternal grandfather, Warren Bassfield; maternal great-grandfather, Earnest Watson; paternal grandfathers, Lawrence Hardy and Moses Nicholson; two sisters; four brothers; and his devoted girlfriend, Madison Wulff.
Those who knew Sa-Juan recall a young life rooted in family and community. He spent his final years in Green Bay and had formerly lived in Blackstone, Virginia. The family invited friends and neighbors to gather in the Blackstone Chapel of Joseph McMillian Funeral Home to share memories and offer support during a visitation on August 4, 2023, followed by a funeral service at Shiloh Baptist Church on August 6, 2023. Sa-Juan was laid to rest in Greenview Cemetery in Blackstone.
Sa-Juan’s surviving family carried his memory forward through these services, honoring the place he held in their lives. This remembrance holds space for the grief of those who loved him and for the quiet, everyday ways a young life can matter: the presence at family gatherings, the steady bonds with siblings and close friends, and the relationships that define a person beyond any single moment. May his memory be a comfort to those who mourn and a reminder of the value of each life in the circle of family.
