Remembering Ruben
A life held close in memory
Ruben Fematt was born August 3, 1962, in Long Beach, California, and raised by his parents Elmer and Sofia Fematt. A family-centered man, Ruben is remembered first and foremost as a devoted father to his son and two daughters and as a loving brother to Rebecca, Richard, Ronnie, and Robert. Those who knew him recall a steady presence in family gatherings and community moments — someone who carried responsibility with humility and who remained close to the many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who survived him.
Ruben lived much of his life in the Wilmington and Long Beach area. He placed great value on family, faith, and the simple daily duties that hold households and neighborhoods together. In June 2011, family and friends gathered to celebrate his life at a burial Mass at St. Margaret Mary Church in Lomita, where loved ones paid their respects and shared memories of his warmth and quiet generosity.
Though Ruben’s life was cut short on June 18, 2011, the mark he left on his family endures in the stories they tell and the traditions they continue. He is survived by his children, his siblings, and an extended family who remember him for his steadfast care and the ordinary, meaningful acts that made him a cornerstone of their lives. In honoring Ruben’s memory, his family asked that remembrances celebrate the life he built and the relationships he cherished.
