Remembering Rosemary
A life held close in memory
Rosemary Bobo Curtis, born July 22, 1941 in Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. A teacher by training and a life shaped by service, Rosemary made Dallas her home after completing graduate work at Southern Methodist University. She treasured her Tennessee roots and often returned to visit family and the countryside that shaped her early years.
A faithful member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church for nearly five decades, Rosemary served in many church programs and leadership roles, living out her commitment to community, faith, and compassionate service. For more than 25 years she and her husband Dave welcomed international students through SMU’s International Friendship program, opening their home and hearts to many young people who became lifelong friends.
Family was central to Rosemary’s life. She was a loving wife and proud mother whose warmth and generosity touched relatives and friends near and far. She is survived by her son, Col. Sam Curtis and his wife Anne and their children; her daughter, Dr. Somer Curtis; sisters Dr. Judy Wood and Jeannie Stevens and their families; and numerous cousins and treasured friends who remember her with affection.
A memorial service celebrating Rosemary’s life was held at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church on January 26, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested contributions to Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Medical Benevolence Foundation, causes reflective of the faith and generosity she lived by.
Rosemary’s family and friends remember her for steady kindness, hospitality, and a life quietly devoted to others. Her welcoming spirit and the many lives she touched through church, family and her work remain a lasting legacy.
