Remembering Roberto

A life held close in memory

Roberto Chavez was a young father and cherished family member whose presence meant the world to those who knew him. Born May 4, 2004, Roberto built close bonds with his mother, wife and siblings, and was a loving father to his son, Aiden Izeah Chavez. He is remembered by his mother, Yvonne V. Chavez; his wife, Esmeralda J. Salinas; his siblings Jose Francisco “Paco” Chavez III, Kayla Chavez, Jose Francisco Chavez Jr., Rebecca Nicole Peña, and Rogelio Peña; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who mourn his passing.

Family and community were central to Roberto’s life. Services were arranged by Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services in Laredo, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory. A vigil and rosary were held on December 6, 2023, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church on December 7, 2023. He was laid to rest at the Laredo City Cemetery, where loved ones shared memories and offered comfort to one another.

Those who loved Roberto recall a young man whose role as a husband and father defined much of his short life. He is survived by his son, who will carry forward the memory of his father, and by relatives who treasured his presence in family gatherings and everyday moments. Roberto was preceded in death by his father, Jose Francisco Chavez.

His family has invited relatives and friends to share condolences and memories through the funeral home’s guestbook, and they continue to seek comfort in one another as they remember the life Roberto lived and the love he gave. Though his life was brief, Roberto’s place in his family’s story is enduring — a reminder of the ties that bind and the warmth he brought to those closest to him.
