Roberta Drury

Roberta “Robbie” Drury was remembered for a big heart, a ready laugh and a steady devotion to family. Raised in the Cicero/Syracuse area, Roberta moved to Buffalo about a decade before her passing to help care for her brother during his illness — a choice that reflected the practical kindness that defined much of her life. She was known to run errands for family, take on grocery trips so others wouldn’t have to, and turn ordinary moments into chances for connection.

Friends and relatives described Roberta as someone who could not walk a few steps without meeting a new friend. She loved family gatherings and annual trips, and the people closest to her recall a woman who noticed others, made sure everyone was included, and could light up a room with her smile. Those who knew her speak of her tenacity, her loyalty, and the comfort she offered in small, steady ways.

Roberta’s family asked that those who wish to honor her memory consider donations to causes she cared about. She is survived by her mother, Leslie (Richard) VanGiesen; her father, Philip (Jeanie) Drury; her grandfather, John Traeger; siblings Christopher (Theia) Moyer, Daniel (Ashly) Moyer, Amanda (Steve) Drury, Nicole VanGiesen, and Brett (Kimberlyn) VanGiesen; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who remember her warmth and generosity.

Her funeral and memorial services brought together friends and family who celebrated the everyday ways Roberta made life better for those around her — by showing up, helping where needed, and greeting people with an open heart. Those who loved her remember her not only for the kindness she showed in difficult times, but for the joy and light she carried into ordinary days. Roberta’s memory endures in the stories, laughter and quiet care she left with those who knew her.
