Remembering Robert

A life held close in memory

Robert Deandre' Bass was remembered for the love he carried for family and the small but meaningful ways he connected with his community. Born January 29, 1992, Robert — often called “Dre” by those close to him — is named by loved ones for the gentle and steady presence he offered to family and friends. He played youth soccer with Columbus Day Star and belonged to Royal Blood Christian Ministries, ties that reflected his involvement in local life and his interest in being part of something larger than himself.

Robert is survived by his mother, De'Juana Bass, and his father, Robert L. King Sr.; his son, Julien Leonard Littlejohn, who remained central to his family’s memories; brothers Robert King Jr. and Da'quan Bass; sisters Ebony Jefferson and Anianh King; grandparents Leroy and Dorothy Johnson and Mitzie King; and a wide circle of cousins, friends and community members who carried him in their hearts.

Friends and visitors recalled Robert as someone who could bring a smile into ordinary moments and who mattered deeply to his circle. Tributes left on his memorial page describe a young man who was “always smiling” and who brightened the lives of those around him. Those who knew him spoke of the small acts of care and the bonds of family that defined him as a son, brother, father and friend.

Funeral services were arranged by Marlan J. Gary Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace North in Columbus, with visitation and a service held in early August 2014. Family and community members gathered to honor Robert’s life, share memories, and support one another.

Though his life was cut short, Robert Deandre' Bass is remembered not as a headline but as a person who held important relationships and left a legacy of love for his son and family. May his memory be a comfort to those who loved him and a reminder of the value of every life.
