The Life and Legacy of Rick Burnett

Rick Burnett was a beloved husband, father, friend, and an unforgettable presence in the lives of the people fortunate enough to know him. On May 19, 2021, the world lost Rick after his battle with cancer. He was taken from those who loved him far too soon, leaving behind a space that can never truly be filled.

Rick had a way of making people feel loved and welcomed. He was funny, warm, and genuine, with a kindness that came naturally to him. He had one of those hearts that made people feel safe—a heart that cared deeply about others and gave generously without asking for anything in return. There were so many people who loved Rick, and that love was a reflection of the kind of man he was.

But above all else, Rick loved his family.

His wife and his son were the center of his world. He loved them fiercely and completely, and so much of what he did was driven by his desire to make sure they were okay. Even when facing his own mortality, his thoughts were on the people he would leave behind. He wanted his family to be taken care of. He wanted them to be safe. He wanted to know that they would be alright.

That was Rick—someone whose love continued to reach outward, even when he was hurting.

Rick was also an incredibly talented artist. Creating was more than something he could do; it was a way he expressed the parts of himself that words couldn't always capture. He put thought, patience, care, and a piece of his heart into the things he made. His artwork was never simply something to look at. It carried something of Rick with it—the time he spent creating it, the care he put into every detail, and the love behind the hands that made it.

Those pieces will be cherished always.

They are tangible reminders of a man who was here, who created, who loved, who made people laugh, and who left his mark on the world. Every piece of art that remains is more than an object. It is a little piece of Rick that can continue to be held onto and passed down, allowing the people who loved him to feel connected to him through the years.

Rick's life cannot be measured only by the number of years he was given. It is measured by the people he loved, the friendships he formed, the laughter he shared, the kindness he showed, the art he created, and the memories he left behind.

He was deeply loved because he deeply loved.

His absence is felt in countless ways—in the quiet moments, in the memories that suddenly bring a smile or a tear, in the stories people continue to tell, and in the things he created with his own hands. Grief is the price of having someone who mattered so much, and Rick mattered tremendously.

Although cancer took Rick's life on May 19, 2021, it did not take away what he gave to the people around him. It could not erase the laughter, the love, the friendship, the creativity, or the countless memories he left behind.

Rick Burnett was here.

He loved his wife. He adored his son. He loved his friends and was loved fiercely in return. He made people laugh. He created beautiful things. He cared deeply. He had a kind heart and gave thought and meaning to the things he did.

And though he was taken from this world much too soon, his love did not leave with him.

It lives on in his family.

It lives on in his friends.

It lives on in the stories told about him.

It lives on in every piece of art he created with care.

And it lives on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rick's greatest legacy was never going to be something he could leave behind in a will or place in someone's hands. It was the love he gave and the love he inspired.

He wanted his family to be taken care of. He wanted the people he loved to be okay. And perhaps the most beautiful way to honor Rick is to continue carrying that love forward—to care for one another, to laugh often, to be kind, to remember him, and to treasure the people we are lucky enough to have while we have them.

Rick Burnett was loved.

He is missed.

He is remembered.

And he will be cherished always.
