A formal remembrance
Richard Sherman Raulerson of St. George, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2024. Born February 6, 1945, in Jacksonville to Sherman and Helen Raulerson, Richard built a life grounded in hard work, family, and the outdoors. He spent his career with CSX Railroad, serving in multiple roles over many years and earning the respect of colleagues for his steady work ethic. In retirement he kept busy as a farmer and cattleman, tending the land and animals he loved.
Richard treasured time spent hunting deer and bear with friends and family, and he delighted in the simple, enduring routines of rural life. He took great pleasure in being a “rocker” for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying the small joys of family gatherings and the company of those nearest to him. Those who knew him remember a practical, dependable man who quietly cared for his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard is survived by his wife of sixty years, Penny Raulerson; his children Brad (Tracey) Raulerson, Judd (Vickie) Raulerson, Dushayne (Felicia) Raulerson, and Amanda (Ronnie) Moran; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His family will recall his steady presence, his devotion to home and land, and the gentle ways he showed his love.
Family and friends were received at Forbes Funeral Home in Macclenny, Florida, with a graveside service at Sands Cemetery in St. George, Georgia. Those who wish to honor Richard’s memory may do so by sharing a favorite story with family or planting a tree in his name. He will be remembered for his loyalty, his hands-on care for the life he created, and the ordinary kindnesses that defined him.
