Remembering Rebecca
A life held close in memory
Rebecca Marie Smith, affectionately known as Nevaeh, was born February 6, 1993, and passed from this life on November 18, 2020. She was cherished by her husband, Eric Sr., and their three children — Ja'Darian, Heavenly, and Eric Jr. — who were the center of her world. Rebecca grew up with close family ties and is remembered by her parents, David and Heather Griego, her siblings Hannah and David Jr., and a wide circle of cousins, grandparents, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her warmth and presence.
Those who knew Rebecca speak of a bright, loving person who carried a special spark—names like "Boo-Boo" and memories of her being close to her family and friends appear often when people recall her. She enjoyed the simple, meaningful parts of family life and left a lasting imprint on those around her, including special bonds with in-laws and longtime friends. Her grandfather Dennis Garcia, among other relatives, remained an important part of her life.
Rebecca’s life was celebrated by family who remembered her laughter and the care she gave to her children. A funeral service was held and she was laid to rest on December 5, 2020. In the weeks and months after her passing, family and friends honored her memory with thanks to those who supported them through their grief.
Though her life was tragically short, Rebecca’s love for her children and family endures in their memories. Her family describes her light as something that will not dim — a sentiment that captures how many will continue to carry her in their hearts. To honor Rebecca’s memory, those who wish may contribute remembrances or gestures that reflect her devotion to family and the close community she loved.
