Remembering Raymond

A life held close in memory

Raymond F. Lewis was born July 9, 1968, in Kingston, Jamaica, and came to the United States with his family in 1978. Raised in Hartford, he attended Rawson Elementary, Fox Middle School, and Weaver High School. From an early age Raymond carried with him the warmth of his island roots and a steady love for good food and community.

A talented and passionate cook, Raymond made his career in the culinary world and served as head chef at several Hilton properties in the Hartford area. Those who knew him remember a man who found joy in preparing meals and in sharing time with family and friends. He also enjoyed sports and the everyday pleasures of life that brought people together.

Raymond was loved and cherished by his family. He is survived by his mother, Cynthia; his children, including his son Devon; his siblings Donald, Janet, Patricia, Robert, Ronald, Peter, and Claudia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents Ann and Wiley, and by other close relatives who went before him. The family expressed deep appreciation for the kindness and support shown to them during their time of sorrow.

A family viewing was held in early November 2022 at Henry L. Fuqua Funeral Service (Howard K. Hill Funeral Services). Raymond’s memory endures in the meals he prepared, the quiet generosity he showed to those around him, and the bonds he built in Hartford. He is remembered for his steady presence in the lives of those who loved him and for the simple, lasting comforts he brought through his cooking and friendship.
