Remembering Quenterio

A life held close in memory

Quenterio “Quan” Marteco Threats (August 19, 1989 – May 31, 2019) is remembered for a life of kindness, steady care, and close family bonds. Born in Gastonia, North Carolina, Quan grew up surrounded by a large and loving extended family and remained deeply connected to his roots throughout his life.

Quan found purpose working with people with disabilities at Home Care Solutions in Winston‑Salem, where colleagues and families came to rely on his patience and compassion. He enjoyed bringing joy to others — dancing, making people laugh, and taking an active, loving role with his nieces and nephews. Those who knew him recall a gentle, honorable man whose quiet wisdom and warm presence brightened everyday moments.

Family was central to Quan’s life. He was a proud father of three daughters and one son, and he treasured the relationships he held with siblings, grandparents, and close friends. He is survived by his mother, Doressia Byers, father Phillip Byers, many brothers and sisters, and a wide circle of relatives who remember him for his generosity and the special bonds he formed with those closest to him.

A homegoing service was held on June 8, 2019, at McCaskill Brice Church Home of Hope and Restoration Ministries in Gastonia, with burial at Armstrong Cemetery. In honor of Quan’s commitment to caring for others, the family requested memorials be made to Home Care Solutions in Winston‑Salem.

Quan’s family and friends remember him not only for the roles he held but for the small, everyday kindnesses that defined him — the laugh he shared, the dance that lifted spirits, and the dependable care he gave to those in need. He leaves behind a legacy of love and quiet service that continues to live on in his children and all who were touched by his life.

Quenterio was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
