Obituary
A formal remembrance
Philip S. "Repo" Whitaker, born November 2, 1963, was a lifelong musician and a beloved presence in Diamondhead, Mississippi. Known to family and friends by his nickname "Repo," Philip shared his love of music playing with several local bands and bringing people together through song. He treasured his role in family life — first as a loving husband to Kelly Whitaker and as a caring son to Annie Whitaker — and later as a father and grandfather who delighted in his children and grandchildren.
Philip’s funeral arrangements were handled by McDonald Funeral Home in Picayune, where family and friends gathered to celebrate his life. He is remembered by his daughter Brittney A. Whitaker; his stepson David Balderas and David’s family; his adopted children Brittany T. Whitaker and Cody Whitaker; his sister Patty Whitaker; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Those who knew him recall a man who loved music, family gatherings, and the simple company of friends.
Though his passing on November 15, 2017 brought deep sorrow to those who loved him, the music he made and the kindness he showed to others remain lasting parts of his legacy. Philip was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Whitaker, his brothers Ricky and Tony Whitaker, and his mother-in-law Melissia Blue. He is survived by his wife Kelly, his mother Annie, grandchildren Dewyatt James and Juan David Balderas-Pineda, and many extended family members.
Philip’s life was one of connection — to family, to community, and to the music that accompanied him. He will be remembered for his warmth, the songs he shared, and the quiet ways he showed his care for those closest to him.
