Remembering Peter
A life held close in memory
Peter “Pete” Luke Espino, 30, of Colorado Springs, passed away on May 17, 2024. Pete was known for his quick mind, gentle generosity, and an easy laugh that brightened gatherings with friends and family. He cultivated technical skill and curiosity through study at Pikes Peak College, earning an associate degree in HVAC and using those abilities to work locally as a technician.
Pete loved music — often making the trip to Denver to see bands — and enjoyed sharing simple comforts at home, from wearing bright, colorful hats to a favorite breakfast of “eggs in a nest.” He was devoted to his older brother Gabriel, with whom he lived for most of his life, and was beloved by his parents, Lee Espino and Kay Nash. Pete cherished his circle of friends and companions, including his 70-pound dog Ki Ki, who kept him company during quiet afternoons and TV marathons of shows like What We Do in the Shadows and American Dad.
Those who knew Pete remember a thoughtful, inquisitive person who applied his technical skill and kindness in everyday life. He grew up in Colorado Springs, attending Fremont Elementary and Russell Middle School before graduating from Doherty High School in 2011. Pete’s family extended beyond his immediate household to relatives in Wisconsin and Tucson, Arizona, and he counted many friends and coworkers among those who will miss his warmth.
Pete’s family wrote that they love him deeply and grieve his loss with broken hearts. Funeral arrangements were handled by Swan-Law Funeral Directors. In memory of Pete, friends and loved ones are encouraged to share stories, plant a tree, or offer acts of kindness that reflect the bright, curious spirit he shared with others.
