Patrick L. Hayes

Patrick L. Hayes (August 17, 1963 – September 25, 2024) brought enthusiasm and steady leadership to everything he loved: family, sport, and community. Born in Oxnard, California, Patrick’s life was shaped early by the water. He excelled in swimming and water polo at Newbury Park High School and went on to compete for the University of Utah, where he earned NCAA Division I All‑American honors and completed a degree in economics.

Swimming and water polo remained central to Patrick’s identity. He continued to play, coach, and mentor players at local, national, and international levels, sharing skill and sportsmanship with younger generations. Those who trained with him remember his dedication, competitive spirit, and the encouragement he brought to practices and matches.

Patrick’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his son, Christian; his fiancée, Sue Ann Kern, and her daughters, Sam and Jess; his siblings Leanne, Mike, Matt, and Andy; nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives. He was known for lively conversations about sports and life, daily walks with his dog Tilly, and a love of travel and fitness that kept him engaged with friends and neighbors.

Friends and family recall Patrick as a warm, energetic presence whose zest for life—whether on the pool deck, at a neighborhood gathering, or in quiet moments with loved ones—left a lasting impression. A celebration of his life will be planned and announced by the family.
