Otto Lee Sonny Brandon

Otto Lee “Sonny” Brandon lived a life shaped by service, steady work, and family. Born May 30, 1938, in Forsyth County to Otto Disher and Ruth Francis McCall Brandon, Sonny served his country in the U.S. Army before building a long career with U.S. Airways. He was a familiar presence in the Clemmons community and an active member of Clemmons Moravian Church.

Known to his family as a loving father and grandfather, Sonny placed great value on the everyday commitments of home and kin. He and his wife, Patricia Myers Brandon, shared many years together; both passed away on January 22, 2010. Those who knew him remember a steady, dependable man who took pride in his work and in being present for his family.

He is survived by his daughter Myra Brandon Bruggman and her husband John Charles of Winston-Salem; his son Mark W. Brandon of Charlotte and Mark’s partner Amy Nix; and two grandchildren, Brandon Christian Bruggman and John Charles “Jack” Bruggman II. Sonny and Patricia were preceded in death by their son Eric. The family welcomed friends at a joint service held at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church on January 28, 2010.

In keeping with his life of care for others, the family suggested memorials to Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Winston-Salem or to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Those who cherish his memory remember a man whose faith, duty, and affection for family defined him—an ordinary life lived with quiet honor that left a lasting impression on those who loved him.
