Remembering Nolan
A life held close in memory
Nolan Gemo "Nemo" Alofipo, cherished son and father of two, passed away on February 21, 2013, at the age of 18. Nolan was known to family and friends for his close bonds with those he loved and for the everyday kindnesses that mark a caring young life.
He was a loving father to his children, Caden Woodson and Wynter Alofipo, and his role as a parent was central to how his family remembers him. Nolan is also remembered by his parents and step-parents, Victoria Lee (Darrell, Sr.) and Nolan Gordon (Jucunda); his companion Chrishonda Robinson; sisters Thelma Lee, Alaya Gordon and Gia Gordon; brothers Darrell, Jr., Dustin Lee and Damian Kelley; and a wide circle of grandparents, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whose lives he touched.
Family members recall a young man surrounded by relatives who celebrated one another through daily life and through gatherings of support and love. Nolan’s presence in his community and his family’s lives is reflected in the number of relatives who stood with them during the funeral arrangements and memorial events.
A celebration of Nolan’s life took place on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at New Hope Baptist Church in New Orleans, with visitation preceding the service and interment at Providence Memorial Park. The family honored his memory in the company of those closest to him and invited those who knew him to remember the joy he brought to his children and to family gatherings.
Though Nolan’s life was brief, his place as a son, sibling and father is what endures. Those who loved him remember a young man whose relationships were central to who he was and whose memory lives on in his children and in the many family members who carry him in their hearts.
