Remembering Nicholas
A life held close in memory
Nicholas Duran Leonard—known affectionately as Nick—was a warm, free-spirited man who cherished his family above all else. Born December 7, 1978, in Cheverly, Maryland, Nick grew up as the youngest of six siblings and carried through life a playful, generous nature that friends and family remembered for its sincerity and easy smile.
Nick delighted in simple, meaningful pleasures: spending time with his daughter Nikiah, laughing and wrestling with his niece and nephews, and enjoying music—both the hip-hop rhythms that energized him and a few gospel songs that held special meaning. Those closest to him recall a man who would share what he had with others and whose happiest moments were those spent with family, especially his daughter and his fiancée, Monique.
Beloved as a son, brother, grandson, uncle, and friend, Nick is remembered for his kindness, his willingness to help others, and the light he brought into everyday life. He was preceded in death by his brother Alvin Leonard Jr., and he is survived by his daughter, parents Denise Leonard and Alvin T. Leonard Sr., siblings, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who treasured his generosity and humor.
Family and community gathered to honor Nick’s life at a viewing and funeral service held April 2, 2018, at Victory Christian Ministries in Waldorf, Maryland, followed by interment at Heritage Memorial Cemetery. Those who knew him remember him not only for the roles he held—father, fiancé, son—but for the warmth he gave freely: a laugh, a helping hand, and a presence that made ordinary days brighter. His family’s love and the small, everyday memories he leaves behind continue to speak to the person he was—a caring, smiling man who loved his daughter and family deeply.
