Remembering Neil

A life held close in memory

Neil Ray Locklear, age 32, of Red Springs, North Carolina, was born August 31, 1988, and cherished by family and friends for his steady work ethic and close family ties. Neil found satisfaction in working with his hands in drywall and construction, taking pride in projects that provided for those he loved and helped shape the places where people live and gather.

Known to his family as a loving son, brother and uncle, Neil enjoyed spending time with relatives and taking part in the daily rhythms of family life. He is remembered by his mother, Tracey Spence of Red Springs; brothers Steven Woriax, Nicoya Thomas Dial, and Travis Hammonds; his maternal grandmother Mary Daphine Dial; and by nieces and nephews who brought him joy. Neil’s stepmother, Michelle Locklear, and his special friend, Barbara Forcier, were also among those who stood close to him. He is further survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who recall his quiet presence and dependable nature.

Friends and relatives gathered to honor Neil’s memory at Heritage Funeral Home in Red Springs. Those who knew him remember a man who preferred meaningful, everyday moments with family to the spotlight — someone whose labor and care supported his household and warmed the lives around him.

Neil’s life, though far too brief, mattered deeply to the people who knew him. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his skillful work in construction trades, and the small, steady ways he showed care. May his memory be a comfort to those who loved him and a reminder of the importance of kindness and practical compassion in everyday life.

Neil was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
