Nathan Kyle Dobbs

Nathan Kyle "Nate" Dobbs, born August 3, 1977, is remembered for a generous smile, an open heart, and the simple ways he brightened the days of those around him. Family and friends recall Nate as a man who delighted in making others laugh and offering a helping hand; he worked hard where he could and cherished time with loved ones.

He was deeply loved by his partner, Ashley Drone, described in the funeral notice as “the great love of his life,” and by the little boy he cared for like his own, Nash Escobar. Nate is also survived by his mother and stepfather, Brenda and Steve Wood; his brother Jarred Dobbs; sisters Jacie and Ashton Tuttle; nieces Kate and Ava Wright; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss his warmth. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Deon Dobbs, his sister Keely Dobbs Wright, and his cousin and close friend Michael Joseph Rutherford.

Through seasons of struggle, Nate sought to grow and to walk a better path. The memorial notice speaks to his hopes to follow his faith and to bring love and stability to his family; those who knew him remember a person who wanted to give joy and positivity to others even while wrestling with personal challenges. His life was a mix of tenderness, resilience, and a desire to be a source of light for those he loved.

Services were held at Shawneetown First Baptist Church on February 21, 2023, with burial at Leamington Cemetery near Junction. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to a Nash Autism Fund at Legence Bank to honor Nate’s love for the child he cared for. Those who knew Nathan will carry forward memories of his laughter, his willingness to help, and the small acts of kindness that defined his days.
