Remembering Muna

A life held close in memory

Muna Pandey came to Houston from Nepal to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. In the years since arriving, she balanced her nursing studies at Houston Community College with part‑time work, and she was known within her community for her quiet determination and the pride she took in supporting her family back home.

Friends and members of Houston’s Nepali community remembered Muna as a young woman devoted to her studies and hopeful for a future in healthcare. She worked at local businesses while completing her coursework, striving to build a better life through education and service. Those who knew her recall a student who took her responsibilities seriously and who valued the bonds of community and family.

Her funeral in early September brought together more than a hundred mourners from the local Nepali community and others who had come to know her. Many spoke of Muna’s bright promise and the plans she carried for a career helping others. A GoFundMe was organized to assist her mother with travel and funeral expenses, reflecting the outpouring of support from friends, neighbors, and community members.

While her life was cut far too short, Muna’s commitment to her studies and the warmth others found in her presence are the lasting memories shared by those who loved her. Her family, classmates, and the Houston Nepali community gathered to honor her life and to celebrate the hopes she carried for the future.

In remembering Muna, her community honors a young student whose ambitions and dedication to helping others stand as a tribute to the life she lived.
