Remembering Mingli

A life held close in memory

Mingli Shannon-Rutledge was born July 18, 1969, in Jilin, Jilin, China, and passed from this life on March 14, 2022, in Cleveland, Texas. Family and friends remember Mingli for the quiet warmth she carried into everyday moments — a devoted wife, a loving daughter and sister, and a mother who treasured time with her daughter.

Mingli made her life in the Cleveland community where she worked as a longtime waitress at China One. Her friendly manner and welcoming smile were part of the familiar fabric of the place, and she was appreciated by coworkers and patrons alike for her steady, gracious service. Those who knew her speak of a woman who took care of her family and treated acquaintances with respect and kindness.

She was preceded in death by her father, Xiangchen Wang. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, John Rutledge; her daughter, Sigi (NanNan) Zhang; her mother, Shuzhen Yi; her brother, Andao Wang and his wife Saohong Han; her sister, Hongxia Wang; nephews Yiming Wang and Weizheng Yan; and many other family members and friends who treasured her presence.

A memorial service was arranged by Neal Funeral Home in Cleveland, Texas. In honoring Mingli’s life, those who loved her recall the steady care she showed for family, the warmth she shared with neighbors and the simple everyday connections — over a meal, a conversation, or a friendly greeting — that revealed her generous spirit.

Mingli’s life was rooted in family and community. While words cannot fully capture the personal moments she created, her memory lives on in the loving family she supported and in the small kindnesses that made her known to so many. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
