Remembering Michael

A life held close in memory

Michael Lee Schwebach was born July 10, 1989, in Sioux City, Iowa, and raised in Cherokee. He brought a creative spirit to everything he did, expressing himself through art and tattooing — a craft he loved and shared with others. Michael combined his artistic talents with a strong work ethic; he spent time building bridges as part of the construction crew for Godberson Smith Construction in Ida Grove, where he took pride in hands-on work that supported his community.

Family was central to Michael’s life. He is remembered by his father, Ronald Schwebach, stepmother Kimberly Wilson, siblings Matthew, Austin, and Jessica, and his three daughters: Christina, Emersyn, and Raelynn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Schwebach, and several grandparents. Those who knew Michael recall a man who cared deeply for his loved ones and who carried a quiet, steady presence alongside his artistic curiosity.

A visitation and celebration of life were held at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa, allowing family and friends to gather, share memories, and honor the life Michael lived. The memorial emphasized the parts of him that brought people together: his creativity, his hands-on work, and the important role he played as a father and son.

Michael’s life touched many across Sioux City, Cherokee, and beyond. While his passing on September 21, 2023, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center was mourned by family and friends, those who loved him continue to remember his laugh, his art, and the dedication he showed to his family. He is lovingly remembered and missed.
