Michael Jones

Michael Ray Jones, 48, of Richmond, passed away December 5, 2023. A thoughtful and quietly curious person, Michael was known to those close to him for his love of good food, time spent outdoors with a bow in hand, and the steady loyalty he showed to family and friends.

Born to Lonnie R. Jones and Dorothy M. Dixon (stepfather Arthur G. Dixon), Michael kept family close to his heart. He is survived by his mother, father, sisters Charlotte L. Sinkler and Chelsea E. Dixon, and other relatives and friends who treasured his company. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Ethel G. Adams and his grandparents Delores A. and John W. Jones — and, as those who knew him remember, by his beloved dog Zhar.

Michael served honorably with the 101st Airborne Division during the Iraq War. That service was a formative part of his life, and those who knew him recall his quiet dignity and sense of duty. At home he delighted in the simple pleasures: experimenting with recipes in the kitchen, sharing meals with chosen family, and spending time outdoors practicing archery.
