Remembering Michael

A life held close in memory

Michael Dante Jennings was born on September 28, 1979, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a devoted father whose greatest pride came from raising his three daughters, Kayla, Hope, and Faith. Those who knew Michael remember him for his generous smile, loyalty to family and friends, and the quiet warmth he brought into a room.

After facing life’s challenges, Michael embraced new opportunities and discovered a passion for construction through the Urban League’s building trades program. He earned advanced certificates, developed leadership skills, and used those lessons to start his own company, Gladly Reconstruction, in the spring of 2020. His work reflected the care he brought to everything he did — steady, determined, and focused on building something lasting for his family and community.

Michael is survived by his daughters; brothers Charles Jennings and Andre Hickman; sisters Kendra and Chenee Jennings and Yvette Hayes; grandmother Iva Jean Jennings; extended family including uncles Clarence Jennings Jr. and Johnny Blincoe Jr., aunt Lynnette (Blincoe) Simpson, nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bruce Hickman Jr.

Family and friends remember Michael not for the circumstances of his passing but for the life he lived: a loving father, a man who seized a second chance, and someone who worked to provide for those he loved. Spring Valley Funeral Home served the family, and those who wish to honor his memory have shared remembrances and support through the family’s chosen tributes.
