Remembering Michael
A life held close in memory
Michael Gene Barton (November 10, 1968 — October 25, 2016) was a devoted family man whose easy laugh and practical kindness were part of everyday life for those who knew him. Born in Tyler, Texas to Edward Gene and Judy Miller Barton, Mike found joy in small, steady pleasures: tending the grill, tossing horseshoes, and a friendly round of darts with friends and family.
He cherished time with his wife Sherile and took particular pride in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Sherile Barton; his children Brittany Lee (Chris Borunda), Julana Barton (LaQuintes Day), Trevor Dobbs (Brittni Murray), and Thatcher Dobbs; and grandchildren Brylie Henshaw, Avery Henshaw, and Emalyn Borunda. Mike also leaves sisters Sandra Loggins and Cindy Barton, brothers Ron and Russ Miller, and many close friends who shared his home-centered, no-frills approach to life.
Those who gathered with Mike knew him as someone who celebrated family milestones and ordinary afternoons alike — whether that meant a backyard cookout, cheering on a child, or spending time with friends he considered family. His care for his grandchildren and the warmth he showed his extended family are enduring parts of his legacy.
A funeral service was held to honor his life and the memories he left behind. In keeping with the family’s wishes, donations in his memory were directed to causes they cared about.
Mike’s life was defined by his steady presence, practical generosity, and the many small rituals that made family life rich. He is remembered with gratitude by those he loved and by the community that shared in his days.
