Obituary
A formal remembrance
Melissa Fowler-Dixon (Jan. 29, 1967 – Apr. 27, 2023) brought warmth and care to the lives of those around her. Known to family and friends as “Missy,” she was a loving mother who took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, and she carried a gentle curiosity that made others feel welcomed and at ease. Melissa had a creative streak and loved crafting — a small, meaningful hobby that reflected her patient and nurturing spirit.
Born to Allen V. Lucas and Melinda (Nichols) Lucas in Marietta, Ohio, Melissa built a life rooted in community and service. She dedicated 24 years to Athens County 911, where colleagues remember her steady presence and commitment to helping others. Later, she served as Finance Officer with the Washington County Home in Marietta, continuing a career defined by responsibility and care for her community.
Melissa is survived by her parents; her son, Timothy Seth Fowler; brothers Jason (Lezlie) Lucas and Shane (Cheryl) Lucas; grandchildren Maximus Fowler and Nahla Fowler; and many nieces and nephews who shared in family celebrations and quiet moments alike. She was preceded in death by her sister, Theresa Goins.
Her family and friends recall Melissa’s easy laugh and the way she went out of her way to make people comfortable. Those simple traits—her kindness, creativity, and devotion to family—are the threads that remain in the memory of those who loved her. Services were held in May 2023 and the family invited donations in her memory to the Athens County Veteran Suicide Fund.
Melissa’s life was one of care and connection: a steady presence at work, a maker of crafts, and a grandmother who cherished time with the little ones. She will be remembered for the quiet, everyday ways she showed love.
