Remembering Maxine

A life held close in memory

Maxine M. Quigg (née Engstrom) lived a life marked by boundless energy, compassion, and civic dedication. Born December 3, 1970, in Williams Lake, British Columbia, she pursued nursing and later family and community life with the same care and attention she brought to everything she did. After meeting her husband Joseph Quigg while working as a registered nurse, Maxine and Joe married in 1995 and raised their two children, Connor and Kennedy. The family moved to Watertown in 2001, where Maxine quickly became an engaged and generous presence in the community.

A natural organizer and volunteer, Maxine served for many years on the Flower Memorial Library board, was a member and financial director of the Watertown YMCA board, and sat on the Northern New York Community Foundation’s board of directors. She helped establish North Country Reads to promote literacy, and her efforts were recognized with honors including a Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction award and local volunteer awards. In 2009 she earned her real estate license and later co-founded Bridgeview Real Estate Services in 2016, where she was respected for her professionalism, creativity, and commitment to fair, honest service.

Maxine’s family remembers her as artistic, industrious, and full of life — someone who could light up a room with her smile, create detailed birthday cakes, and find joy in music and dance. She took pride in helping others and in the many ways she supported civic life in the North Country. Her parents, Mary Jane and Fred Engstrom, brother Mitchell Engstrom, husband Joseph Quigg, children Connor and Kennedy, and extended family survive her.

Her family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Northern New York Community Foundation to help establish the Maxine Quigg and Terry O’Brien Reach for the Stars Fund, honoring her spirit of service. Maxine’s devotion to family, community, and the people she helped remains the clearest reflection of her life: a bright, creative, and caring presence who made her community better.
