Remembering Matthew Edward Heath

A life held close in memory

Matthew Edward Heath Little, 23, of Red Lake and residing in Minneapolis, is lovingly remembered for his generous heart, artistic spirit, and devotion to family. Matthew carried a passion for words and music: he wrote poetry, sang, and drummed at pow wows, bringing his voice and rhythm to community gatherings. An avid reader and a thoughtful companion, he found joy in sharing stories and songs with others.

Matt was also a patient teacher and a champion at the chessboard, sharing the game with neighborhood children and helping many learn strategic thinking and good sportsmanship. He delighted in time with his nieces and nephews, treasured moments with family, and the company of close friends. Those who knew him recall his steady loyalty, quiet warmth, and the pride he took in lifting up younger people.

He is survived by his mother, Darma J. Little; sister Shanoah (Diego) Barajas; brothers Kyle Little and Calvin (Leah) Little; nieces and nephews Victor, Diego Jr., Brayon and Connor; maternal grandparents Adelma and Jim Oakgrove; paternal grandparents John and Elaine Little; and an extended circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Heath Little, and other relatives who hold a place in the family’s memory.

Family and community gathered to honor Matthew’s life at services held at the Redby Community Center. Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted assisted with arrangements. In keeping with how he lived, memories of Matthew focus on the warmth he shared, the creativity he expressed through poetry and music, and the care he showed to children and those close to him. He will be remembered for his gifts of song, story, and friendship, and for the bright moments he gave to family and community.
