Remembering Matthew
A life held close in memory
Matthew Cedric Bovell, affectionately called “Skinny” by friends and family, was a beloved son, father and brother whose sudden passing on April 7, 2012 left a wide circle of loved ones mourning his loss. He is remembered by his father, Philip Bovell; his sons, Elijah and Mekhi; his sister Allyson (Kevin); his brother Laurence (Shelia); and a number of nieces, nephews and close friends who treasured his presence.
Those who knew Matthew recall a young man who held important roles within his family — above all, a father to Elijah and Mekhi — and someone who brought companionship to siblings and friends. The guest messages left with his memorial reflect how much he was missed and the warmth others felt from his friendship.
Family members held services in Fort Washington to honor Matthew’s life and to gather in shared remembrance. In the days that followed, friends and relatives left thoughtful messages remembering moments of connection and expressing hopes that he rests in peace.
While the circumstances of his death were the subject of police inquiry, Matthew’s memorial and the words shared by those close to him kept the focus where it belongs: on the people who loved him and the family he leaves behind. His sons, siblings and father remain central to his memory, and those who cared for him continue to mark his life with love and remembrance.

Matthew was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
