Obituary

A formal remembrance

Martin “Marty” Anthony Calderon of Carlsbad, New Mexico, was born November 15, 1968 in Silver City and died December 27, 2018. Known for his steady work ethic, Marty held roles as a laborer, fast-food manager and spent many years in the local trades — including a long tenure with Hamilton Roofing and later positions at Mosaic Potash and Tomahawk Pumping. He took pride in providing for his family and in everyday pleasures: a day spent fishing or hunting, time listening to music, or tinkering with and driving his beloved Corvette.

A longtime member of San Jose Catholic Church, Marty valued his faith and the ties of community it fostered. Above all he cherished time with his family; he is survived by his daughter, Monet Calderon, his father Nieves T. Calderon, Jr., and siblings including Christopher, Michael Steven Sr., Nieves N. III, Matthew, Samantha and Candice. Marty was preceded in death by his mother, Merced Nickles Elliott.

Family and friends gathered to honor his life with funeral services at San Jose Catholic Church on January 3, 2019, followed by interment at Carlsbad Cemetery. Those who knew Marty remember a hardworking, down-to-earth man who loved the outdoors, music, and most of all his family — a life that mattered deeply to those who loved him.
